How to keep a mood journal
A few words about how you feel, a place to return to them.
Where to begin
A mood journal holds what you choose to record about how you feel at a particular moment. You can note your energy and daily activities alongside your mood without looking for an explanation straight away. Start with a simple question: “How do I feel right now?”
What to write: an example
“Tuesday evening. Feeling calm, low energy. Walked for twenty minutes and read a few pages. I would like a quiet evening.” You can write less: one word about your mood and one about your energy. Notes are optional; you decide how much to share.
Add a little context
Describe an activity or a moment you want to remember. A walk, a conversation or a pause can help you recall the day when you return to it. Seeing an activity alongside a particular mood does not show that it caused that mood.
When to write and look back
Choose a convenient moment or make an entry whenever you want to. There is no need to write every day. After a few days, revisit your words and ask what you want to remember or do again, without turning your journal into a judgement of yourself.
The journal in Body Mind Soul
Body Mind Soul is an app coming soon to iOS and Android. It brings together activities, mood and energy check-ins and a history to revisit. Activities belong to the Body, Mind and Soul dimensions; you can add and edit today’s entries, revisit your history and delete older entries too. There are no rankings or missed days to make up for.
